Why relax after practice?

Even if you have not done a yoga class you may have heard of Savasana. Or maybe you have been to a class and wondered 'Why am I paying a teacher to put me to sleep?' And if none of the above: did you know that most yoga and chi kung classes end with a deep relaxation?


These answers (and a little more) can be found in this video I created originally for my students but after further thought this practice (and yes, it is a practice) can benefit after any type of training! Think of the art of visualising a performance, game or set of movements before they are put to action, so why not rest into this action after as well?


This type of relaxation allows the energy and practice to really settle into the body. It can help one to remember what it did to both improve and embody the process and can also give the body an opportunity to heal and further its development.
